Accessibility statement
What we've built to WCAG 2.2 AA, what we've tested, and what still needs work.
Our commitment
This site is built to conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Accessibility was designed in from the start rather than retrofitted after an audit, because retrofitting is both more expensive and produces worse results.
What we've built in
- Semantic HTML with correct landmark structure and one H1 per page
- Full keyboard operability, including the navigation menus and all forms
- A visible focus indicator on every interactive element
- Text contrast of at least 4.5:1, and 3:1 for large text and UI components
- A skip-to-content link as the first focusable element
- Form labels correctly associated, with errors announced and linked via
aria-describedby - Alternative text on meaningful images; decorative images marked as such
- Body text never below 16px, so mobile browsers don't zoom on focus
- Touch targets of at least 44×44px
- Full support for
prefers-reduced-motion— all entrance animations, the background video, parallax and marquees stop - Layout that reflows to 320px width without horizontal scrolling
How we test
- Automated checks with axe-core as part of our development process
- Manual keyboard traversal of every page template
- Screen reader testing with NVDA on Windows and VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
- Contrast verified against the design tokens rather than sampled by eye
- Testing on real devices, not only in a resized browser window
Known limitations
We'd rather name these than let you discover them:
- The portfolio filter announces result counts via a live region, but a small number of screen reader and browser combinations announce the change inconsistently.
- Third-party embeds — a booking calendar, for example — are not fully under our control. Where an embed has accessibility problems we provide an alternative route, such as a standard contact form.
- Some case study diagrams convey information visually. We are adding full text descriptions; in the meantime, contact us and we'll send the content in an accessible format.
The video on our homepage
The homepage background video is decorative. It carries no information, is marked aria-hidden, has no audio, and does not load at all if you have reduced motion enabled or are on a small screen or a metered connection. A static image is shown instead.
Tell us if something doesn't work
If any part of this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, please tell us — it's the most useful feedback we get. Email contact@sedwis.com with “Accessibility” in the subject line. We aim to respond within two business days and to fix genuine barriers quickly rather than adding them to a backlog.
If you need any content on this site in an alternative format, ask and we will provide it.
For our clients
We build client projects to the same standard, and it's included rather than an upsell. For clients in the public sector we also build to GIGW requirements, which go beyond WCAG in places. If accessibility is a procurement requirement for you, we can support your audit.
