01The short answer
For a well-built first version of a mobile app in India, expect ₹12–25 lakh. A simple app with a handful of screens and no payments can land nearer ₹8 lakh. A complex product with payments, real-time features, an admin panel and integrations runs ₹35 lakh and upward.
Those numbers assume senior engineers, real testing, and code someone else could maintain. That last part is where cheap quotes get their savings, and it's the part you only discover eighteen months later.
02What actually drives the cost
Not the platform. Not the framework. Not, mostly, the city the team sits in. The three things that genuinely move the number are the number of distinct user roles, the number of external systems you integrate with, and how much of the workflow has exceptions.
A delivery app with one user type is straightforward. The same app with customers, riders, restaurant staff and an operations console is four applications sharing a backend — and roughly four times the work.
Integrations are the second multiplier. Each one is a third-party system with its own failure modes, rate limits and sandbox quirks. Teams routinely estimate an integration at two days and spend two weeks.
03Reading a quote that looks too cheap
If one quote is a third of the others, something has been left out. Usually it's testing, and sometimes it's seniority — the people who pitch are not the people who build.
Ask three questions. Who specifically will write this code, and can I meet them? What test coverage is included? What happens if the estimate is wrong — who absorbs it? The answers separate a genuine low price from a number designed to win the deal and be revised later.
04Where you can genuinely save
Cut features, not quality. The most effective cost reduction available to you is shipping fewer things well. Most first versions contain at least a third that could wait, and shipping earlier tells you which third.
Cross-platform saves 30–40% versus separate iOS and Android builds, and for most apps costs you nothing that matters. Using a ready product where one fits saves more than any negotiation — we tell clients this regularly, including when it means we build less.
05What we'd suggest
Start with a discovery phase rather than a quote. One to two weeks, a written scope, and a firm number you can plan against. It costs a fraction of the project and it's the only way anyone can give you a figure they'll stand behind.
If a firm won't do that — if they'll quote a fixed price from a one-page brief — treat the number with suspicion. They're either padding heavily or planning to revise it.
